In addition to the standard layers (Region, City, District, ZIP Code, Suburb, bricks), GeoForce lets you upload your own polygons from a GeoJSON file — for example, brick boundaries, coverage zones or administrative borders. The uploaded file becomes a custom layer that you can use in drawing mode the same way as the standard layers.
File requirements
Before uploading, make sure your file meets the following requirements:
- Format: GeoJSON (
.geojsonor.json). Other formats (Shapefile, CSV, MapInfo, raster files) are not supported yet. - Coordinate system: WGS 84 (EPSG:4326), with longitude from −180 to 180 and latitude from −90 to 90. If the file doesn't specify a coordinate system, GeoForce reads the coordinates as WGS 84.
- Geometry type: polygons (
PolygonandMultiPolygon). Points and lines are skipped and are not added to the layer. - File size: up to 200 MB.
An example of a valid GeoJSON file:
Each object in the file (Feature) contains a geometry and, optionally, a set of properties such as a code or a name. All properties are uploaded with the polygons and shown in the data sample before you create the layer.
Note: If a polygon has no name, GeoForce generates one automatically using the pattern {file name}_{upload date YYYY-MM-DD}_{upload time HHmmss}_{sequence number}, for example new_bricks_2026-10-08_140501_1. Polygons that already have a name keep it.
Uploading a custom layer
Enter drawing mode (click the brush icon), open the drawing options list and select Upload custom.
In the Upload custom window, drag the file into the upload area or click choose a file and select it on your computer.
Once the file name appears in the upload area, click Preview.
GeoForce checks the file and shows the upload results:
- Polygons — the number of polygons that will be added to the layer. Multipolygons are split into separate polygons, so this number can be larger than the number of objects in the file.
- fixed — invalid polygons (for example, self-intersecting ones) that were repaired automatically.
- skipped — geometries that are not valid polygons and won't be added to the layer.
- Data sample — the first rows of the uploaded data: the polygon ID, its name and the properties from the file.
Check the data. If you selected the wrong file, click Remove and upload another one.
- Click Upload & Apply.
In the Create custom layer? window, click OK.
Wait until the layer is created. The progress is shown in a notification at the bottom of the screen.
Important: Don't close the browser tab until the process is complete. Uploading a large file may take several minutes.
When the layer is ready, GeoForce switches to it automatically. The new layer appears in the drawing options list under the name
{file name} ({upload date DD.MM.YYYY}), for example new_bricks (08.10.2026). If a layer with the same name already exists, a sequence number is added: (2), (3), etc.Click Apply (the check mark icon) to start working with the layer.
After that, you can draw territories on the custom layer the same way as on the standard layers.
Note: To cancel the upload, click Cancel in the Upload custom window at any step before you confirm layer creation. In this case, no data is saved and the map stays unchanged.
Errors and warnings
If the file can't be uploaded, GeoForce shows a message explaining the reason:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Unsupported format. Upload a GeoJSON file (.geojson, .json) | Save the data as GeoJSON and upload it again. |
| File exceeds the 200 MB limit | Split the data into several files or simplify the polygon geometry. |
| The file is corrupted or does not match the GeoJSON format. Check the file integrity | Make sure the file opens correctly and contains valid JSON. |
| The file contains no objects | The file is empty. Check that you selected the right file. |
| The file contains no recognizable cartographic data. Make sure it contains geometries (polygons, points or lines) with valid coordinates | The file has no geometries or all geometries are empty. Check the data export settings. |
| The file contains no polygons. Points and lines cannot be uploaded as a layer — choose a file with polygon geometries | Upload a file that contains polygons. |
| Coordinates out of the allowed range detected. Check the coordinate system and data validity | Convert the coordinates to WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). |
| An unknown server error occurred | Try uploading the file again later. If the error persists, contact support. |
The upload can also show warnings. They don't stop the upload:
- {count} non-polygon geometries were skipped — points and lines from the file were not added to the layer.
- {count} invalid polygons were dropped — some polygons couldn't be repaired and were not added to the layer.
- Large file ({count} polygons) — performance may degrade — the file contains more than 100,000 polygons, so the map may work slower.
Limitations
- Only GeoJSON files are supported.
- You can't edit the geometry of uploaded polygons in GeoForce. To change the polygons, edit the file and upload it again.
- Raster data (GeoTIFF, ECW, etc.) is not supported.
