Territory balancing distributes bricks between medical representatives so that their territories are as equal as possible by the criteria you choose. After the calculation is complete, you can group the result by your own brick codes from Datasets and compare it with the original solution.
⚠️ Important: Balancing is available to administrators only. Users without administrator rights do not see the brick grid on the map and cannot assign territories or run the calculation.
Before you start
Prepare the following:
- Brick data is created in Admin Tool — see Brick Data in Datasets. This is required only if you plan to group the result by brick codes.
- Territories are assigned to the representatives who take part in the balancing.
- Organizations have their locations specified on the map.
- The territories touch each other and form a single continuous area.
Step 1. Select the area
- Click the Balancing icon in the left pane.
- In the first list, select the region, for example Florida.
- In the second list, select the cluster, for example Miami.
The selected cluster is outlined on the map with a thick blue line. Everything inside the outline takes part in the balancing.

⚠️ Important: Bricks can be colored and starting points can be placed only inside the outlined cluster. If you selected Florida → Miami, nothing outside Miami will respond, even though the rest of Florida is visible on the map.
Step 2. Set the starting points
Place a starting point for every representative who takes part in the balancing. The starting point is the place where the representative begins the working day.
Open the Summary table, click the geo point icon next to the representative, place the marker inside the cluster, and save the change. See Set Starting Points for details.
ℹ️ Note: A representative without a starting point is not included in the calculation.
Step 3. Set the balancing criteria
Choose the criteria the territories should be equalized by, and set the weight of each one with its slider:
- Compactness — how tightly the territory is shaped. The higher the weight, the more the system avoids stretched or scattered territories.
- Turnover — the total turnover of the territory.
- HCO type, HCO category, HCP category, Expertise — open the section and select the values you need. A separate slider appears for each selected value.
[GF16]
⚠️ Important: The weights must add up to exactly 100%. The total is shown as Σ above the first slider. In the example above, Compactness 20% + Turnover 25% + Pharmacy 55% = 100%.
Step 4. Run the balancing
Click Start. The calculation takes some time, after which the new distribution appears on the map, and each representative's territory is shown in their own color.
Review the result in the Summary table: the number of organizations, specialists, and the turnover of each territory should now be close to each other.
Step 5. Group the result by brick data
This step applies your own brick codes from Datasets to the finished balancing result. The territories are refined so that organizations belonging to the same brick stay with the same representative.
- Click Add grouping.
- A second row appears with a Group by list. Open it and select the brick type, for example Proxima.
[GF26]
The panel now shows which result is currently displayed, for example Showing balancing result #7.
[GF27]
- Click the Update icon to apply the grouping and redraw the map.
[GF28]
Use the radio buttons on the left of each row to switch between the original balancing result and the grouped one, and compare them on the map. To drop the grouping and return to the original solution, click the minus icon — Remove grouping.
ℹ️ Note: A brick may consist of several separate parts, so after grouping, pieces of one territory can appear in different places on the map. The distance between them does not necessarily indicate an error. See Grouping Requirements.
Step 6. Save or discard the result
Two buttons next to Start decide what happens to the calculated distribution:
- Save (the check mark) — applies the result to the map. The new territories replace the previous ones and become the current areas of responsibility.
- Clear (the cross) — discards the result. The territories return to the distribution they had before the balancing.
[GF29]
⚠️ Important: Compare the result with the original distribution before saving. Once saved, the previous territories cannot be restored from the balancing panel — they have to be assigned again manually.
